Cobra Kai Season 6 Gets First Trailer, Will Release in 3 Parts
Cobra Kai is going out with a bang, not a whimper. Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for the sixth and final season of The Karate Kid sequel series, revealing a super-sized episode count and three-part release strategy.
“Picking up with Cobra Kai eliminated from the Valley, our senseis and students must decide if and how they will compete in the Sekai Taikai — the world championships of karate,” reads the official Season 6 synopsis for Cobra Kai. The date announcement trailer reveals that Cobra Kai’s final season will consist of 15 episodes, which is five more than each previous season received. At the time of writing, Netflix hasn’t revealed how it intends to split up the 15 episodes across the season’s three release dates. While it makes sense to split them up evenly into five-episode batches, Netflix has been known to split seasons up unevenly. For instance, the first seven episodes of Stranger Things Season 4 were released on May 27, 2022, followed by the final two episodes on July 1, 20232.

‘So Many New Places’: Cobra Kai Creator Teases Season 6’s Miyagiverse Connections
Cobra Kai co-creator Jon Hurwitz teases how the forthcoming Season 6 will continue to expand the Miyagiverse in new and exciting ways.
Cobra Kai originally premiered on YouTube Red in 2018 but later moved to Netflix following the release of its second season. The series reexamines the original film series from the point of view of Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and follows him as he decides to reopen the Cobra Kai karate dojo, which rekindles his old rivalry with Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). The acclaimed series has so far revisited key moments and characters from the first three Karate Kid movies — The Karate Kid (1984), The Karate Kid Part II (1986), and The Karate Kid Part III (1989).
Is Hilary Swank in Cobra Kai Season 6?
One movie that Cobra Kai has yet to revisit is 1994’s The Next Karate Kid, starring Hilary Swank as Julie Pierce, who was also mentored by Pat Morita’s beloved sensei Mr. Miyagi. Despite fans wanting Swank to reprise the role in Cobra Kai, the actor recently cast doubt on returning as Julie, noting in February 2024 that she hasn’t been asked back yet. “I don’t think I am, unfortunately. I know,” she shared. “It’s, like, the number one question I get right now. Most people usually say, ‘What’s it like working with Clint Eastwood?’ But I think, ‘Are you going to be on Cobra Kai?’ has almost surpassed that.”

New Karate Kid Movie Gets Delayed to 2025
If Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 3 is released before May 2025, the beloved Netflix series will conclude just before the new Karate Kid movie hits theaters, which was recently delayed from Dec. 13, 2024, to May 30, 2025. As it stands right now, the movie, the sixth in the franchise, is not connected to Cobra Kai despite Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso being confirmed to appear. He will be joined by Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han from the 2010 Karate Kid reboot, which was previously not canon to the Miyagi-verse.
Full plot details haven’t been revealed, but it’s known that Karate Kid will follow a Chinese fighter-in-training (American Born Chinese’s Ben Wang) who finds “strength and direction via martial arts and a tough but wise mentor (or two),” suggesting that both Macchio and Chan will train the young protagonist. Production on Karate Kid began in April with Jonathan Entwistle as its director.
The first five seasons of Cobra Kai are streaming on Netflix, with Season 6, Part 1 set to be released on July 18, followed by Part 2 on Nov. 28, and Part 3 in 2025.
