Marvel Comics canonized a new Spider-Man in 2011, when a teenager named Miles Morales took on the mantle following the death of Peter Parker. Though the character is relatively new compared to many of the brand’s most popular heroes, he quickly became a fan favorite in the years immediately after his introduction. Miles has since served as the central character of both the animated film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and the 2020 video game “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales,” leaving many wondering when, rather than if, the character will officially debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In fact, “Spider-Man” movies have been hinting at Miles’ arrival in the MCU for years. A character in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” portrayed by comic and rapper Donald Glover, first mentioned someone viewers recognized as Miles in 2017. He was again indirectly referenced as recently as “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in 2021.
With Miles’ arrival to the MCU all but an inevitability, plenty of people have come up with their own ideas of who should play the character on-screen. Most recently, fans of Netflix karate soap opera “Cobra Kai” proposed that a recent series addition might be just the guy for the job.
Fans think Dallas Dupree Young should be the MCU's Miles Morales

One Twitter user, with the handle @SPIDEYJUPE, posted “kenny is giving me major miles morales vibes” along with photos of “Cobra Kai” actor Dallas Dupree Young and Miles Morales as he appeared in “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” That Tweet was liked more than 850 times. User @GerryMcBride similarly wrote, “We’re watching the new season of Cobra Kai and the kid who plays Kenny is an absolute shoe-in to play Miles Morales if Sony go there with the next Spidey movie. He’s deadly,” to the tune of 40+ likes. Users like @SimGuruArvin and @razkaii, among others, tweeted similar sentiments.
Starting in “Cobra Kai” Season 4, Young portrays a junior high student named Kenny Payne. Upon his introduction, Kenny is a little dorky — spending free time on video games or dancing to music on his headphones in public, oblivious to his surroundings — but he’s also confident and big-hearted in his own way. In their Tweet arguing that Young would be right for the Miles Morales role, user @MarshallMC17 shared a gif from “Into the Spider-Verse” in which Miles dances to music coming from a pair of headphones, presumably likening Kenny’s behavior in “Cobra Kai” to this particular moment.
Whether or not Young does end up as the MCU’s Miles Morales, of course, depends on a multitude of factors. At the very least, many “Cobra Kai” fans seem to be in agreement that he would be well suited to the role.
