UN slammed for ‘targeting the wrong country’ by going after Australia’s carbon emissions

MacroBusiness Chief Economist Leith Van Onselen says the United Nations is “targeting the wrong country” by going after Australia for its carbon emissions.

“If Australia reduced its carbon emissions to zero tomorrow it would not move the needle globally at all,” he said.

“We are a tiny player in the world stage.

“Shouldn’t the UN be lecturing huge emitters like China? Where emissions are way larger than Australia’s and they are growing almost exponentially.

“Rather than Australia where emissions are pretty flat and once you adjust for population growth they are actually falling … I think the UN is targeting the wrong country here.”
