Chelsea are set to learn their opponents for the Fifa Club World Cup later on this afternoon as the draw for next year’s tournament takes place.

The Blues were crowned European champions when they beat English rivals Manchester City in the Champions League final back in June and qualified to be Uefa’s representative at the tournament in the process.

Chelsea also played in the tournament in 2012 after beating Bayern Munich to win the Champions League for the first time. On that occasion they reached the final but lost to Brazilian side Corinthians.

The competition will take place in February next year in the United Arab Emirates, having been pushed back from 2021 as a knock-on effect of Covid disruption to the football calendar.

Here’s everything you need to know…

When is the Club World Cup draw?

The draw will take place on Monday, November 29, starting at 4pm GMT. It will be held at Fifa’s headquarters in Zurich.

How to watch the draw?

The draw will be streamed live for free on the Fifa website or via its Youtube channel.

You can also follow the draw with Standard Sport’s LIVE blog.

Which teams will play in the Club World Cup?

Seven teams will take part in the tournament, six of them as representatives of their respective continental competitions and one as a representative of the host nation. They are:

  • Chelsea (Uefa)
  • Palmeiras (CONMEBOL)
  • Al Hilal (AFC)
  • Al Ahly (CAF)
  • Monterrey (CONCACAF)
  • Auckland City (OFC)
  • Al Jazira (Host)

Who can Chelsea face?

Both Chelsea and Palmeiras will not enter the tournament until the semi-final stage and, as a result, could face any of the other five teams depending on results in the earlier rounds.

Al Jazira have already been confirmed to face Auckland City in the first round, with the winners set to join Al Hilal, Al Ahly and Monterrey in the second round.

The entire tournament path will be mapped out following the draw, meaning Chelsea will know their potential opponents.
