Closure of A12 does not lead to major problems for the time being

As expected, the closure of the A12 between the Oudenrijn junction near Utrecht and Nieuwerbrug will lead to more congestion on the diversion routes, but has not yet led to major problems. There was, however, nine kilometers of traffic jams on the A27 from Utrecht to Gorinchem around 8 a.m., the ANWB and Rijkswaterstaat report.

A spokesperson for the ANWB says that there is normally no traffic jam there in the morning. It is busier on the A2 and A4 due to the closure, the spokesperson reports.

It is also slightly busier on various inner routes. For example, a listener reports to Omroep West a delay on the N11 at Bodegraven of 20 to 25 minutes. Furthermore, according to Rijkswaterstaat, it is a normal morning rush hour.

The busy arterial road on the A12 was closed at 9 p.m. last night for major maintenance and will remain closed until 5 a.m. on 7 October. Traffic from Utrecht to The Hague will be diverted via the A2, A9 and A4. Traffic in the direction of Rotterdam can take a detour via the A2, A27 and A15.

Repairs and replacement asphalt

The highway is closed for major maintenance. Viaducts are being refurbished, faulty lighting is being repaired and mowing is taking place. Where necessary, new matrix signs and detection loops will be installed.

Between Woerden and Reeuwijk, worn asphalt is replaced by so-called ‘silent’ zoab (very open asphalt concrete). In addition, breakdown ports, roadsides and crash barriers are raised to the height of the new road surface.
