Chris Minns details ‘distinction’ between Jack’s Law and NSW knife crime legislation
New South Wales Premier Chris Minns says the “only distinction” between the state’s new knife crime laws and Jack’s Law in Queensland is declared safe night precincts.
The New South Wales government is seeking to legislate tough new knife laws following a series of stabbings in Sydney.
The proposed new measures are modelled around ‘Jacks Law’ which has run successfully in Queensland.
“We don’t have that designation in New South Wales,” Mr Minns said.
“As a result, we have to craft a law so that it applies via regulation most likely to shopping centres, sporting precincts, train stations or areas where there’s crowds that gather.”
