A woman has been sentenced to 37 months in prison for threatening a U.S. District Judge in Florida.
A 50-year-old Houston woman was sentenced Friday to 37 months in prison after sending threatening voicemails to the U.S. district judge in Florida presiding over Donald Trump’s classified documents criminal case.
Tiffani Shea Gash pled guilty in November to the charge of interstate communications with a threat to kidnap or injure. She left three voicemails for U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon on Sept. 1, 2022, claiming Cannon would be killed.
She also claimed in two of the voicemails that she hired people to shoot and bomb Cannon’s house. In the voicemails, Gash called herself “Evelyn Salt,” the name of Angelina Jolie’s character in the 2010 film “Salt.”
“Upholding the rule of law is one of the main priorities of the Department of Justice, and that means protecting public servants from violence,” United States Attorney for the Southern District of Texas Alamdar S. Hamdani said in a statement. “Holding Tiffani Gish accountable for her threats to assassinate a federal judge sends a strong message that we have no tolerance for those – who often hide behind a far-off keyboard or phone line – seeking to undermine our democratic institutions by threatening the safety of the people who help those same institutions thrive.”
The guilty plea carried a maximum sentence of five years and a $250,000 fine. During Friday’s hearing, Gish’s mental health and previous threats to government agencies were discussed.
Gash was originally arrested a few days after she made the calls in September 2022.
