Firefighters worked through the night to tackle a massive blaze at an industrial premises in Santry in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Firefighters attached to Dublin Fire Brigade rushed to the scene of the blaze at the Airways Industrial Estate just before 4am. Seven fire engines, two turntable ladders and a water tanker attended.
Firefighting crews tackling the blaze got it under control overnight, with the incident now scaled back to just two fire engines and no injuries reported.
While the fire has been brought under control, DFB has warned residents that strong winds continue to blow smoke from the blaze across the Santry area.
A spokesperson for Dublin Fire Brigade told the Irish Mirror: “Dublin Fire Brigade are currently at a fire in an industrial unit in Airways Industrial Estate, Santry.
“The brigade was called at 0336 hrs and at the height of the incident seven fire engines were in attendance including two turntable ladders and a water tanker.
“Good progress has been made by firefighters in extinguishing the fire and the incident has been scaled back to three fire engines. There are no injuries reported.
“Smoke has been driven by a strong wind and we’re asking nearby residents affected to close all windows and doors as a precaution. There are local road closures in place and we have had great assistance from An Garda Siochana, ESB Networks and Gas Networks Ireland.”
Firefighters tackle the blaze in Dublin
A post on the Dublin Fire Brigade X account this morning further urged residents to close all windows and doors as a precaution against the smoke drifting across the vicinity.
They wrote: “If you can smell smoke we’re advising local residents to close all windows and doors as a precaution. Smoke is drifting across the vicinity.”
A garda spokesperson also confirmed to the Irish Mirror that authorities were assisting fire crews in tackling the blaze.
They said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fire that occurred at an industrial premises in Santry, Dublin City this morning shortly after 4am. No injuries have been reported at this time. The scene has been preserved.”
