Chelsea looking at Bundesliga left-back to replace injured Chilwell

Chelsea have identified Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa as they look to find a replacement for the injured Ben Chilwell.

Chilwell has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering an ACL injury. The injury leaves Thomas Tuchel with Marcos Alonso as they only recognised left-back in the squad.

The likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic are all capable of filling in bit there quality lie in other areas of the pitch.

The Blues have been linked with a number of left-backs throughout this January transfer window, including Lucas Digne.

The French defender fell out with Rafa Benitez at Everton and was of interest to a number of Premier League clubs.

Newcastle were linked as were Chelsea but the defender decided to make the move to join Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa side.

Sky Germany’s Marc Behrenbeck (via the Express) has reported that Villa were previously in for Sosa but after securing the signing of Digne, the Croatian full-back is now wanted by Chelsea.

Sosa recorded an impressive nine assists for Stuttgart last season and has three so far this term. If Chelsea were to make a move for the defender, who has five caps for the Croatian national side, it could cost them £25million to secure his services.

Elsewhere, Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has admitted the club need to win the Champions League in order to compete with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Walker admitted: “That’s what this club needs. We say it every season in the four years since I’ve been here. This club needs to compete with Manchester United, Liverpool. We need to go and get a Champions League.

“We were close last year. A better team won on the day. My honest feeling is the Premier League is different, it’s more difficult with the 38 games you play throughout the season.

“The Champions League is 13 games to the final. For me, I want the Premier League. The Champions League is something you dream about and hopefully I can make my dreams come true this year.”
