Unity and stability vital for growth, says Nga

IPOH: With the Year of the Dragon symbolising strength, confidence and wealth, the focus should be progressing the national economy, says Nga Kor Ming.

The Housing and Local Government Minister said all Malaysians must play their role.

“Unity among all races is most important in ensuring economic growth. Political parties must not continue to harp on old and rhetorical issues, but move forward for the sake of developing the economy,” he said at the Perak Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) Chinese New Year event here yesterday.

Nga said during the recent visit of Transport Minister Anthony Loke here, they visited the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport where the latter announced that the facility would be upgraded.

“Work is expected to start after Hari Raya and be completed by Chinese New Year next year. With the upgrade and more connectivity, Perak will be able to attract more investments,” he added.

PCCCI president Datuk Liew Chee Ming hoped that with Visit Perak Year 2024, more tourists from China would come to the state.

This year being the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China and coupled with the visa exemption policy between both nations, he hoped that more Chinese tourists would come to the country.

“I hope that promotional campaigns will be intensified to get more visitors to Perak. Besides tourism, PCCCI also welcomes the state government’s efforts to spur industrial development by drafting the Perak Industrial Plan to drive economic growth,” he said in his speech.

Liew said talk about political instability from time to time was not conducive to the country’s economic development.

“Political stability is key to increasing foreign investments. So I hope that all political parties focus on national development and on the people’s livelihood so that our country continues to progress,” he added.
