‘This girl cannot dance’: Katrina Kaif recalls how this was said on mic on Malliswari sets, people told her she’ll never succeed

Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif has opened up about her journey to success in the Indian film industry. Katrina revealed that she’s faced harsh criticism about her dancing abilities, with people even discussing it on mics on movie sets. Additionally, others have directly told her she wouldn’t become a star. Despite these challenges, Katrina said that she never let these comments deeply affect her. Interestingly, she pointed out that those who once criticised her later approached her for work.

In an interview with Mid-day, Katrina said, “I remember there was an instance where I was on a South Indian film set with Venkatesh, it would have been Malliswari. And somebody on the set was saying on the mic, ‘This girl just can’t dance.’ I remember very specifically not feeling pained or sensitive about it, just kind of hearing it as information.”

The Merry Christmas actor continued, “I have so many memories of people telling me to my face, and I can remember it as we sit here, that ‘You will not make it, you cannot succeed. This will not work, I will never take you in a film, we will not be able to work with you,’ and all of this changed. The same people who said these things to me, I did work with all of them. I did films with all of them. Had I taken that and taken it to my heart and gotten dejected and gave up, then none of this would have happened.”

Katrina entered Bollywood with her debut in the 2003 box office bomb, Boom, sharing the screen with stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Jackie Shroff. She later appeared in several films, including Sarkar and the Telugu hit Malliswari. However, it was David Dhawan’s Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? that catapulted her into the spotlight, and the rest, as they say, is history.

The actor was last seen in the film Merry Christmas opposite Vijay Sethupathi. She also starred in Tiger 3 opposite Salman Khan.
