Sobha Viswanath about Attukal Pongala: I have been performing the ritual since my childhood, and I shall continue it till my last breath too
Attukal Pongala is one of the significant festivals of Kerala. Held at the capital city Thiruvananthapuram, the largest gathering of women for the annual festival of Attukal Bhagavathy temple is indeed the pride of the state. Women from different walks of life come together to participate in this ritual of offering Pongala – the mix of boiled rice, jaggery, coconut, and other ingredients – in earthen pots to the goddess. As any other devotee, entrepreneur, and ex-Bigg Boss Malayalam contestant, Sobha Viswanath is also preparing for the Pongala and she is all excited about it.
In a candid chat with ETimes TV, Sobha spoke about her strong devotion to Attukal Devi and the Pongala, the ritual she has been performing ever since she was a child.

“From as far back as I can recall, I’ve been participating in the Pongala ritual. I began performing it alongside my mother, holding her hand, and this tradition has endured throughout the years. I hold an unwavering belief that Devi will always guide and support me,” she expressed.
In the Bigg Boss house, Sobha was often observed worshipping one of the wall arts in the bedroom area, which she believed represented Attukal Amma.
“People may perceive it as just a mask-like figure. However, for me, it embodied Attukal Amma. I perceived immense power and positivity in those eyes. If you ask me, how did I survive in the house, it was solely due to that positivity,” she conveyed.
Furthermore, Sobha expressed that the deity is akin to a mother figure to her, who has bestowed upon her a second chance at life.
“My mother had just given birth to me, but my true mother is Attukal Amma. I have never confided my struggles to my mother because I know she would not be able to bear it. Whenever I feel downtrodden, I seek solace with Attukal Amma and share my burdens with her. In my prayers, I envision myself sitting on her lap and conversing with her. During the darkest moment of my life when I attempted to take my own life and slipped into unconsciousness, the first face that appeared in my mind was that of Amma. I firmly believe that she granted me a second chance at life,” she concluded.
