The 9 days of Navratri are dedicated to the worship of the 9 forms of the Hindu Goddess Durga, which include Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidatri.

This year, the third day of Chaitra Navratri will be observed on Friday, March 24. On this day prayers for Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Chandraghanta.

About Goddess Chandraghanta

We worship Goddess Chandraghanta on the third day of Navratri. According to Hindu mythology, the goddess is the married form of the goddess Parvati. It is believed that the planet Shukra (Venus) is governed by this goddess only.

Maa Chandraghanta’s pictorial depiction shows her endowed with ten hands and mounted on a tiger. She carries a trident (Trishul), a mace (gada), a sword (talwar), a pitcher (kamandal) in her left hand and a lotus, a bow, an arrow, and Japa mala in her right. In addition, Maa Chandraghanta has a third eye that opens only during times of war.

Royal blue symbolizes abundance, wealth and royalty. It also signifies unmatchable elegance and charm. This is the colour of the third day of Navaratri. On this day Maa Chandraghanta, who derived the name after marrying Lord Shiva and adorning her forehead with a half moon, is worshiped.

Pray to Lord Ganesha (Vighnaharta) and seek his blessings for a hurdle-free Navratri vrat. Then, they light a lamp (with ghee or mustard or sesame oil) and place it on the altar near the Goddess’ idol or image. Then, invoke Maa Chandraghanta by chanting the following mantras.
