A confident Cesc Fabregas believes Arsenal are ‘too strong’ for Manchester United and expects Mikel Arteta’s side to win ‘comfortably’ at Old Trafford this weekend.

Arsenal hold a one-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, but Pep Guardiola’s men – last year’s treble winners – have a game in hand over their rivals.

The reigning champions kick off the weekend’s action at Craven Cottage knowing they can leapfrog the Gunners with maximum points against an out-of-sorts Fulham, who have picked up just one win in seven in the English top flight.

Arsenal’s opponents, United, meanwhile, suffered one of their most painful defeats of recent times in a crushing 4-0 humbling away to 14th-placed Crystal Palace last time out.

Previewing the action on the Planet Premier League podcast, Fabregas urged Arsenal to be wary of the Red Devils but backed his former club to get the job done and inflict yet more misery on an already wounded United team.

‘I consider it a big game, Arsenal v United, United v Arsenal, they have always been special games,’ the ex-Arsenal and Spain midfielder said.

‘It’s true, United at the moment are not at the level that they were in the past, we can all agree with that. I can see Arsenal being too strong for them at the moment.

‘I do think Arsenal play by memory, they are confident, they believe, they have the experience. They have grown over the last year, they improve, so I do think Arsenal will win that game comfortably.

‘I will not say easily because United is United and the history, at the end of the day, the badge on the chest, we need to respect that and Old Trafford is Old Trafford.

‘But again, I consider Arsenal are too strong at the moment.’

Arsenal fans will be desperate for Fulham to pull off an upset against City in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off and Fabregas believes the match could prove a ‘tricky’ contest for Guardiola’s side.

‘Fulham is a tricky one for Manchester City,’ he added.

‘They are playing well, they have a very good team and they have good players.

‘They’ve had a good season, a very complete season. They’ve improved in many areas, they have a good coach so, yeah, I believe it’s going to be at least tricky for Manchester City to obtain the three points.’
