‘Cennete Giden Merdiven’ sökülüyor

HAWAII’nin Oahu adasındaki Honolulu şehrinde yer alan Haiku Merdiveni, sunduğu mükemmel manzarayla turistlerin yoğun ilgi gösterdiği alanlardan biri.

Ancak Honolulu Belediyesi’nden geçtiğimiz günlerde yapılan açıklamada, 1987’den beri çıkışların yasak olduğu merdivenin söküleceği duyuruldu. Yaklaşık 855 metre yükseklikteki merdiven, yer yer sisli dağlık bölgelere erişim sağladığı için “Cennete Giden Merdiven” olarak da biliniyor. Belediyenin açıklamasında, rotanın hem tehlikeli olduğuna hem de başkalarına ait arazilerden geçtiğine dikkat çekilmiş, turistlerden merdivene çıkmamaları istenmişti. 23 Nisan’da merdivene çıkan 5 kişi özel mülke izinsiz girme suçuyla gözaltına alınmıştı. II. Dünya Savaşı’nda kurulan radyo kulesine erişim için ABD Donanması tarafından inşa edilen merdivenin sökülmesi, belediyeye yaklaşık 2.5 milyon dolara mal olacak. Yaklaşık 5 ay sürmesi beklenen söküm işlemi tamamlandıktan sonra merdivenin nereye taşınacağı henüz kararlaştırılmadı.
