For the Ajax Foundation’s S’Cool project, the students of Cburg College have worked on new core values for the school. The Ajax Foundation kicked off this project in November 2021 during a full-day programme. During this day, the students of our third grades were introduced to the core values of Ajax and they received a gym lesson from Ajax focused on core values. In the weeks that followed, this project was continued in the mentor lessons. The third grades have thought about their personal core values and the core values of the class and the school. The core values have been drawn up and embraced together with students from across the school, who are represented in the student council. An idea was then considered in which the chosen core values are permanently visible. For example, a large graffiti artwork is now planned in the bicycle shed with the core values on it, content competitions are being organized in which students can submit ideas for t-shirts, cards and other printed matter with photos, videos and drawings.
core values
In addition, the class already sent the competing schools from this project motivational cards and the neighborhood is involved by going into the neighborhood with a film camera and interviewing various residents and entrepreneurs about the new core values. With this ‘Recipe for winning together’, the students have brought the elaborated core values to the attention within and outside the school. These ideas will be further elaborated in the mentor lessons in the coming period with the help of the Ajax Foundation.
With all these ideas, Cburg College’s 3C grade ‘recipe’ rose above the other contestants and took home the win.
Ajax Foundation
S’Cool is a competitive school program in Greater Amsterdam about norms and values for class 3 and 4 of secondary education, where all the learning goals of the Ajax Foundation come together. Participating schools are instructed to jointly devise a lasting idea for the school, in which the school’s key values are visible. Four schools competed for the win in the final. Each school was represented by one class, who presented their idea for permanently visible core values to the jury in a ‘recipe for winning together’. This professional jury consisted of the Ajax Foundation, the Ajax Coaching Academy, the ABN Amro and the Vriendenloterij.
Development of social competences
Cburg College is a secondary school for the pre-vocational secondary education and vocational training, where the educational concept of working in professional squares is optimally designed. This is where the practical part of the Media, Design & ICT, Economy & Entrepreneurship, and Services & Products specializations takes place. The development of social competences is central and having a people-oriented and socially involved attitude is encouraged. Since this school year, the school also offers students the opportunity to achieve MBO level 2.
‘Community’
The Cburg College is located in the Sportheldenbuurt in the middle of Zeeburgereiland, recognizable by the three silos. The name of the school is based on the area in which the school is located, the green and water-rich environment and also a central, dynamic location in Amsterdam. The C stands for the social character of the school as a ‘community’ and there is also a joke to be made in the pronunciation: Zeeburg and Cburg.
