Cast of Tim Burton’s Wednesday 2 announced: Jenna Ortega to return as teen anti-hero Wednesday Addams
Jenna Ortega will return as Wednesday Addams, in Season 2 of ‘Wednesday’ on Netflix. The OTT platform announced the cast of the show directed by Tim Burton and written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar with a minute-long “cast reveal” video. In the video, The Addams Family’s ‘Thing’ is seen ‘handing’ out the script titled “Here We Go Again” for the new season to:
– Joy Sunday returning as Bianca Barclay, Wednesday’s cunning and super-popular schoolmate
– Jammu and Kashmir-born Dame Joanna Lamond Lumley who will make a guest appearance as Grandmama
– Catherine Zeta-Jones returning as Morticia
– Enid Myers reprising the role of Enid
– Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort
– Billie Piper as Capri
– Thandiwe Newton as Dr Fairburn
And, of course, Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams.
Season 1 of ‘Wednesday’ released on Netflix on November 16, 2022, and quickly became the No. 1 Netflix show in 83 countries. Jenna Ortega got a Best Actress Golden Globe nomination, and the series bagged four Emmys: for outstanding production design, for Danny Elfman’s title theme, for costume design and for non-prosthetic makeup by the team of Tara McDonald and Freda Ellis for the episode “Woe What a Night”.
In Season 1, Tim Burton’s young-adult take on ‘The Addams Family’ saw Wednesday solving a murder mystery even as she joins a new school and comes to terms with her growing powers and her history.
Ortega brought to life Wednesday’s many contradictions in Season 1 of Tim Burton’s dark comedy. Seemingly antisocial, Ortega’s Wednesday is quite layered: She alternates between disdain for the world and playing savior to the underdog, and she does not suffer fools or sycophants or even a lot of bright colours kindly.
Dame Lumley has worked in iconic series from ‘Doctor Who’ to ‘The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’. She has also worked with Tim Burton in the past, on the 1996 film ‘James and the Giant Peach’ and Corpse Bride (2005).
Season 2 of ‘Wednesday’ is now in production, and also stars Hunter Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, Moosa Mostafa, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Georgie Farmer, Isaac Ordonez, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor and Luis Guzman. Also guest starring in the series are Jamie McShane, Frances O’ Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, Joonas Suotamo with Fred Armisen and Christopher Lloyd who played Uncle Fester in The Addams Family movies from the 1990s.
