Casey Anthony's father 'breaks down' when asked if he had concealed granddaughter Caylee's body while being questioned using a lie detector for new show - one year after he was accused of dumping the body in Florida woods

Casey Anthony’s father ‘broke down’ when asked if he concealed his granddaughter Caylee’s body during a lie detector test for a new A&E special.

The newest documentary about the unsolved case comes a year after George Anthony was accused by his own daughter of dumping Caylee’s body in the Florida woods near his home.

His emotional reaction to questions asked about his late granddaughter seemed to strike a nerve with George as he was hooked up to the machine in an on-camera interview for ‘Casey Anthony’s Parents: The Lie Detector Test.’

Former FBI examiner George Olivo asked the grandfather: ‘Did you knowingly conceal Caylee’s whereabouts?’

‘No, I mean I didn’t know where she was at,’ George replied as he got choked up.

During a sneak peek of the new special, the examiner conducted a pre-test interview where he asked George if he sexually abused his daughter Casey.

Before a polygraph test can begin, a pre-test has to be conducted to see if the participant is suitable for testing, Olivo explained.

He started of by asking George: ‘You called yourself a 10 on the personal honesty scale, and you didn’t lie about that, right?’

The father and grandfather then hesitated before he said: ‘Yes – I mean I didn’t lie about that, sorry. I’m sorry, I’m sorry.’

As George was tested, his wife of 42 years, Cindy, sat and watched in another room.

When asked if he has always been a ’10 on the sexual integrity scale’, George responded ‘Yes’, while Cindy responded ‘No.’

‘I guess when you’re separated, it doesn’t count,’ Cindy said in the preview of the documentary.

The interview then proceeded to talk about his granddaughter’s mysterious death as George stumbled on his words and clearly became disturbed.

As Olivo kept asking if the father and grandfather knew where Caylee’s body was, he noticed that George was ‘struggling’, and asked why.

‘Maybe it’s because I – it was so close to our house that she was found,’ George said.

As he continued to become effected by the questions he said that he began to ‘visualize the woods.’

‘The woods where she was found. I’m sorry, I’m sorry.’

His daughter Casey was infamously acquitted of murdering her two-year-old daughter Caylee after a highly publicized trial during which she was dubbed the most hated woman in America.

Casey was also seen partying just days after her daughter went missing and was later found murdered.

She has always denied killing her young daughter, who went missing in June 2008, despite cadaver dogs picking up traces of human remains in her vehicle, and Caylee’s skeletal remains discovered near the family property in Orlando.

Cops and thousands of volunteers combed Orange County and the greater Orlando area for the child and found her remains in December of that year.

It took 31 days for Casey to call police and tell them Caylee was missing. On July 15, 2008, Casey’s mother Cindy first alerted the authorities to Caylee’s disappearance.

The couple hadn’t seen Casey or Caylee for a month. They then found Casey’s car in a tow-yard, and George said the smell ‘took his breath away.’ In her 911 call, Cindy told the dispatcher: ‘Caylee’s missing. It smells like there’s been a dead body in the damn car.’

Casey then told police that she’d left her daughter with a babysitter, Zenaida Gonzales Fernandez, and that she was also missing.

Casey Anthony was subsequently arrested on July 16, 2008, and questioned at Orange County Jail.

During the ensuing six-week trial, jurors were sequestered in a nearby hotel to minimize influence in the case, which captivated and angered the general public.

The 12 jurors and five alternates sat through 33 days of testimony – examining more than 400 pieces of evidence while hearing from 91 witnesses – as 40 million Americans watched it all unfold in real time, on live television.

The verdict was announced July 5, 2011 – with jurors acquitting Anthony on the first-degree murder count, as well as the manslaughter and child abuse charges.

The jurors did, however, find Anthony guilty on four counts of providing false information to police – charges that saw the mom handed a four-year prison sentence.

Anthony was given credit for time served in prison and was released on July 17, 2011, 12 days after the trial’s conclusion.

During her first sit-down in 2022, Casey appeared in a three-part docuseries on Peacock, where she claimed that both she and her daughter were sexually abused by her father George.

She then went on to claim that in the past she was abused by her father and her brother – claims they vehemently denied. Neither of them has ever been charged in connection with the allegations, nor have they been implicated in Caylee’s death.

The mother also said that her father abused her daughter, killed her and made it look like an accident in the pool.

Casey claimed in the Peacock series that she woke up from a nap by he father who was ‘shaking’ her and asking her where the toddler was.

‘I wasn’t feeling that great, and I wanted to lay down. I had her lay in bed with me. I was awoken by [my father] shaking me and asking me where Caylee was. That didn’t make sense. She would never even leave my room without telling me,’ the mother said.

‘I immediately started looking around the house. I go outside and I’m looking to see where she could be. He was standing there with her. She was soaking wet. He handed her to me.’

She has always maintained that only her father knows how Caylee died.

After the trial ended, she said she received ‘no help or assistance’ from her family but that her team of lawyers gave her ‘a little money’ to move on with.

‘I have fought so hard for a normal life. My defense team was very adamant about making sure I was able to have a fresh start after the trial I didn’t receive any help or assistance from my biological family,’ Casey said.

‘I was given a little bit of money from my defense team to start to get on my feet. They are my surrogate family. She reveals that she started over in 2011 with money given to her by her defense team.’

‘I don’t ever want to see anyone be pigeonholed by not only by law enforcement but the media, be railroaded like I was,’ she said.

Recently, an unnamed friend of Casey’s told The Messenger that the mother is ‘painfully aware’ that her life would be different if her daughter Caylee hadn’t been murdered and ‘it bothers her more than she cares to admit.’

‘Caylee would have been 18 this year,. She’d be going off to college now, and Casey’s job as a mother would essentially be done at 37 years old. But none of that happened,’ the friend said.

‘Birthdays, holidays, prom, graduation,’ they added. ‘She missed out on all of that.’

Casey has also tried to keep a low profile since the trial, living a quiet life in South Florida where she has tried to avoid the spotlight and the general public.

She now lives in West Palm Beach where she currently works as private investigator, and has maintained a social life by drinking with friends at local bars.

The new documentary special is set to air on Thursday at 9 pm ET on A&E and Lifetime.

A synopsis of the special sent to DailyMail.com from A&E said: ‘In response to Casey Anthony’s recent accusations against her father, George and Cindy Anthony agree to undergo polygraph tests on-camera to answer lingering questions about George’s involvement in Caylee’s death in the new special, “Casey Anthony’s Parents: The Lie Detector Test’.’

‘Their real-time responses to the polygraph questions are laid bare in the documentary along with each spouse’s reaction to the other’s answers and the lie detector results. As old wounds are ripped open again, will the polygraph tests finally bring closure?’
