Case against Amit Shah for poll code violation in Telangana
A case has been registered against Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Telangana after the state Congress unit lodged a complaint against him, alleging poll code violation.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) vice president Niranjan Reddy alleged in a complaint to the state Chief Electoral Officer that during a BJP rally on May 1, a few children were seen on the dias with Amit Shah.
Niranjan Reddy said that during the rally a child was seen holding a BJP symbol in his hands, calling it a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
The e-mail sent by Reddy to the Telangana CEO further claimed “The Election Commission recently directed the political parties not to use the services of children and their participation in election-related campaigns or activities.”
The election officials forwarded Niranjan Reddy’s complaint to the Hyderabad police for a factual report, who then registered an FIR against Amit Shah on Thursday.
T Yaman Singh, senior BJP leader G Kishan Reddy, and legislator T Raja Singh are among other accused in the matter.Â
The case was registered under IPC Section 188 (violation of an order issued by a public servant) and further investigation is underway.
The BJP has fielded Madhavi Latha from the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, who will be taking on the sitting MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi.
Hyderabad will go to polls in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 13.Â
