Carpenter's Hack for Starting Screws Makes Life So Much Easier
screwdriverheads
If you’re a regular DIYer, chances are you’ve struggled with getting a screw started at least once during a home renovation project. Whether you’ve wobbled while trying to line up the bit and the screw and poked yourself (us), or cursed as you’ve dropped uncooperative screws that fell because you couldn’t get them (okay, also us), chances are you’ve all been here before.
However, those struggles may be a thing of the past now thanks to this handy tip from a carpenter, which seems to make getting your screw started as easy as slipping a warm knife into butter. Not only can it help you with your future projects, but it could also keep you from from cursing or hurting yourself in the process!
The video shared by @tipshacks.us was full of really interesting tips, but the one that caught our eye had to do with super heating the tip of a screw before starting it with a drill in a piece of wood.
The heat served to make it easier to sink into the wood before starting the drill, which secured the screw in the wood. While it may not work for all materials — we’re not too sure if this would have the same effects if used with plastic or metal, for example — it does seem like it was a good fix for wood.
We get a lot of good hacks from the pros, because after working with tools day in and day out they’ve come up with plenty of ways to make life easier, like some of these examples listed below.
Keep Your Tools Organized With PVC
If you’re regularly working with tools, you probably have a pretty good collection of them at home. And, as you know, those tools aren’t exactly easy to store unless you have one of those expensive organizational systems, which are often more expensive than a DIYer can afford.
Enter this crafter’s PVC storage system. It’s basically just a series of holsters that are specially designed to hold things like drills and saws. Take a look at how they put it together with this handy video.
Fix Uneven Framing With Hammer Trick
There can be a lot of reasons why your framing doesn’t line up, which can be frustrating when you just want to finish the job you’re working on and move onto the next steps. But this clever carpenter approved hack will help you get things back on track, and all you need is a claw hammer to pull it off!
Check it out and see if you can’t use this during your next big DIY project.
