lok sabha election 2024 400 paar ya satta se bahar? mallikarjun kharge’s prediction on pm modi’s third term
New Delhi: With slightly over a month remaining until the start of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, political parties are intensifying their campaign efforts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated his confidence in the BJP’s victory, asserting that the NDA will surpass the 400-seat mark. While the Congress party had not previously responded to these claims, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has now offered an intriguing prediction regarding the upcoming general elections.
Speaking at a public gathering in Amethi, Kharge dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambition of securing 400 seats in the Lok Sabha. He asserted that the BJP would struggle to even secure 100 seats in the upcoming elections and predicted their ousting from power.
“Though the BJP claims that it will gain over 400 seats, it won’t be able to cross 100 seats. Abki baar, Satta se bahar (this time, they will be ousted from power)”, Kharge said on Monday.
“If BJP is not defeated in the Lok Sabha polls, there will be no election again in the country, no more democracy and no more Constitution. If there is no Constitution, there will be no privileges that the people are enjoying right now,” PTI quoted Kharge as saying.
The Congress president’s comments come in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua, where he remarked that if the NDA could surpass 400 seats, the BJP alone should secure more than 370 seats.
“When the opposition mentioned ’24 mein 400 paar’, I responded by saying that I’ve also heard that the NDA will exceed 400. However, I’ve also heard that the BJP alone will cross 370. And I’ll explain how,” the Prime Minister stated, referencing Mallikarjun Kharge’s previous statement.
Earlier this month, the BJP shared a clip of Kharge’s ‘400 paar’ remark from the Rajya Sabha on its official social media handle. “You have the majority, with 330-334 seats. This time, it will be above 400,” Kharge had stated, eliciting laughter from the Treasury bench, including PM Modi.
PM Modi took a playful dig at Kharge regarding his remark, recalling West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s comment suggesting that Congress might not even secure 40 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“I hope you keep 40 seats with you. As I listened to his speech, I wondered how he got the freedom to speak so freely. Then I realised that those two commanders were absent. Kharge ji must have thought, ‘When will such an opportunity arise again?’ and scored fours and sixes,” the Prime Minister quipped.
