El número tres del mundo, Carlos Alcaraz, se metió en octavos de final del Masters 1000 de Madrid tras eliminar este domingo al brasileño Thiago Seyboth Wild 6-3, 6-3 en una hora y cuarto de partido.

En su primer encuentro entre ambos, el brasileño, número 63 del mundo, se vio avasallado por su rival, que alejó definitivamente las dudas sobre sus molestias en el antebrazo derecho.

Thiago le pegaba muy duro a la bola y no sabía cómo iba a aguantar el antebrazo, hoy era la prueba de fuego para mí, y muy bien, ninguna molestia, sintiéndome espectacular”, dijo Alcaraz tras el partido.

“He dado unos golpes de derecha muy buenos para mí, así que ahora vamos a ir para arriba”, aseguró el ganador de Indian Wells.

El español, vigente doble campeón del torneo madrileño, reeditará en octavos la final del pasado año en Madrid contra el alemán Jan-Lennard Strauff (N.24), que por la mañana ganó al francés Ugo Humbert (N.14) en dos sets, por 7-5 y 6-4.

Sobre la tierra batida de la Caja Mágica, Seyboth Wild sólo pudo competir en los seis primeros juegos del encuentro, donde logró hacer algo de daño con fuertes derechazos.

Pero con 3-3 en el marcador, el brasileño logró salvar una bola de break, antes de que Alcaraz aprovechará su segunda oportunidad para ponerse por delante y llevarse los siguientes dos juegos.

Seyboth Wild, que en la ronda anterior había vencido al italiano Lorenzo Musetti por un doble 6-4, desconectó en la segunda manga.

Alcaraz se fue hasta un 5-0 a favor, pero el brasileño aprovechó una pequeña relajación del español para volver a meterse en pista.

Seyboth Wild logró romper el saque de Alcaraz en el séptimo juego para acabar remontando hasta un 5-3, cuando el ganador de dos Gran Slams aprovechó su saque para rematar el 6-3 con su primera bola de partido.
