Cardi B Literally Takes Over the Red Carpet in a Black Gown at the 2024 Met Gala
Cardi B arrived to the 2024 Met Gala wearing a black Giambattista Valli gown that nearly took up the whole width of the red carpet. Several people were seen carrying her train as she posed for the cameras.

The rapper’s ensemble was inspired by a black rose, as her stylist Kollin Carter teased on his Instagram earlier today. It makes sense, given the dress code is “The Garden of Time,” chosen by the Costume Institute to pair with their spring exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
The star recently told the Hollywood Reporter that her and Carter’s strategy for the Met is to “be iconic.”
“We always try to make sure that everything goes right, that everything be iconic,” she explained. “We want everything to be iconic. I know people sometimes be like, ‘Oh, it’s not about who is there and who is not,’ but it’s like, no, you need to remember us forever.”
The rapper said in March that she and Carter start planning months in advance of the event. “We’re always thinking ahead,” she continued. “I feel like the Met Gala is almost like going to the Grammys. It’s very nerve-racking, and even though we make it look so easy, we really be so nervous.”
The Costume Institute’s Andrew Bolton told Vogue of this year’s exhibit and theme, “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion. One thing I hope this show will activate is that sensorial appreciation of fashion.”
Last year, Cardi had several different looks for the night, which honored the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, who passed in 2019. The rapper was photographed leaving her hotel in a pink tulle column gown by Miss Sohee.

Then, for the red carpet, she changed into a black Chenpeng Studio gown with a collared bodice as a nod to Lagerfeld.

She told Vogue, “Karl and the house of Chanel, you know every girl from the hood love a Chanel purse. So I feel like this is giving boy bag with the camellia roses.”
