SAMUT PRAKAN: A man was killed after a car he was driving rammed into the rear of a six-wheel lorry parked on a road side in Bang Phli district on Saturday night.
Pol Lt Col Sapas Prakanpitak, a Bang Phli police investigator, said the accident occurred at about 9.30pm on King Kaew road in tambon Bang Phli Yai.
Police and a rescue unit rushed to the scene. They found the front section of theToyota Vios stuck underneath the rear of the lorry – with the driver trapped inside. Rescuers used a hydraulic jack to break open the car and brought out the driver, who was already dead. He was identified as Opas Penthale, 50.
Sawan Chonphut, 56, the lorry driver, said that while on the way back from Rayong he parked the vehicle on the road side and went off to buy some food. Shortly afterward, he heard a loud noise of the car hitting the rear of his lorry. He called the police.
Vorapan Tapianthong, 59, a witness who was driving in another car told the police that the Toyota Vios was running fast on the left lane and rammed into the lorry’s rear. The driver tried to switch to the right to avoid hitting the lorry, but he was too slow, said the witness.
Police were investigating footage of security cameras in the area to establish the cause of the accident.Internet Explorer Channel Network
