Comparing Erik Ten Hag’s Man Utd record after 100 matches to Solskjaer, Mourinho & Van Gaal

Erik ten Hag has now managed 100 matches for Manchester United, but how does his record compare to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Jose Mourinho & Louis van Gaal after the same number of games?

The Dutch boss did well in his debut season for the club, but there’s no denying that he has run into some difficulty this year. With the club currently 11 points adrift of the top four, Ten Hag faces a big task to get the club back on track.

We’ve ranked United’s last four permanent managers by their win percentage after 100 matches to see who comes out on top.

4. Louis van Gaal – 52%

Van Gaal joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2014 and spent two years in the hot seat. United were tough to break down under the Dutch boss as they only conceded 0.95 league goals per game during his tenure.

With that being said, the slow build-up play and lack of goals during his second season in particular was ultimately his undoing at the club.

After 100 games in charge, Van Gaal had a win percentage of 52%. That’s by no means disastrous, but it does place him at the bottom of this list.

3. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – 56%

Solskjaer spent more time as United boss than any other manager on this list which is some going. In total, he managed 168 games over a three-year period at the club.

Taking his first 100 games into consideration, he boasted a win percentage of 56%. The Norwegian boss did a reasonably good job during his first two full seasons, guiding United to two consecutive top four finishes.

However, he is the only manager on this list who never managed to win a trophy with the club during his tenure in charge. Winning 56 out of his first 100 matches earns him third spot on this list.

2. Erik ten Hag – 59%

There’s no denying that United have been under-par this season, but Ten Hag still boasts a reasonably good record when compared to United’s previous managers.

Considering the mess that he first inherited, he did a fine job of guiding United to a respectable third-place finish during his first season in charge.

This time around, the club haven’t quite been able to live up to the same standards and Ten Hag’s win percentage has taken a considerable knock because of this.

His 100th game in charge was against Manchester City and despite a fast start from Ten Hag’s side at the Etihad, they ultimately came up short against their local rivals.

After the defeat, Roy Keane suggested that the jury is still out on the Dutch manager following 100 games at the helm.

“It still leaves that question mark over where this United team are going,” Keane told Sky Sports. “There’s still question marks of this team and unfortunately of the manager.”

QUIZ: Can you name every player Erik ten Hag has used at Man Utd?

1. Jose Mourinho – 60%

The Special One boasts a better win percentage after 100 games than any other United boss in the last 10 years. Things might have ended on a sour note, but Mourinho took the club for quite the ride in his early years.

During his first 100 matches in charge, Mourinho delivered three trophies by winning the Community Shield, EFL Cup and Europa League.

While things drastically went downhill for the Portuguese boss during his third season, he still looks back on his time with United with fond memories.

“I loved it, I loved my time there,” Mourinho told VIBE with FIVE. “I was so proud of going there.

“I was even prouder when a couple of years later I went back as a Sky commentator with Roy Keane and felt the reaction of the crowd. I was like ‘wow’.

“I always felt like we were together in the time I was there, but to have that reaction touched me. I loved my time there.”
