Canucks Thatcher Demko Named 2024 Vezina Trophy Finalist
Thatcher Demko has been named a finalist for the 2024 Vezina Trophy. Voted on by NHL general managers, Demko becomes the third goaltender in Vancouver Canucks history to be a finalist for the award, joining Roberto Luongo (2007, 2011) and Kirk McLean (1989, 1992). This season, Demko helped the Canucks capture the Pacific Division title while posting a record of 35-14-2. Demko also had a career-best five shutouts while recording a .918 save percentage and a goals-against average of 2.45.
The other two finalists this season are Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets and Sergei Bobrovsky of the Florida Panthers. While this is Demko’s first time being a finalist, both Bobrovsky and Hellebuyck have won the Vezina Trophy in the past. Hellebuyck won the prestigious trophy in 2020, while Bobrovsky is a two-time winner, having captured the Vezina in 2013 and 2017.
The NHL will be announcing the rest of the award finalists over the next week and a half. Other dates for fans in Vancouver to keep an eye on are Wednesday, May 1, when the Norris Trophy finalists are revealed and Friday, May 3, for the Jack Adams.
