'Can't Catch!' Xavier Worthy Facing Foolish Criticism at Chiefs Rookie Camp
During his time at Texas, Xavier Worthy flew past defenders at will, but had his own admitted struggles with some drops.
It didn’t help that a broken hand suffered during the 2022 campaign impacted his ability to catch, which showed up in the Alamo Bowl that season when he dropped three passes and two would-be touchdowns in a loss to Washington.
“It was tough,” Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers said at the time.“But I didn’t lose any confidence in him. I know he didn’t lose any confidence in himself.”

The Kansas City Chiefs rookie receiver made nearly everyone forget about the inconsistencies when he broke the 40-yard dash record at the NFL Combine in February. This game-changing speed prompted the Chiefs to trade up for him at No. 28 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
However, the start of Kansas City’s rookie minicamp on Saturday saw the Worthy doubters crawl out from their mom’s basement to overreact to a viral clip of the receiver dropping a pass during one of his first drills of the day.
“Xavier Worthy already in Chiefs regular season form,” one account on X (Twitter) said sarcastically of Worthy’s drop.
“Xavier Worthy at Chiefs practice yesterday. Kadarius Toney seems to already be rubbing off on their new rookie WR,” wrote another account.
“Xavier Worthy can’t catch,” wrote another.
Take a look at the clip:
“Clearly,” dropping a single pass during practice means Worthy will be a no-doubt bust. These are the kind of foolish thoughts running through the heads of those that want to see Worthy fail in the NFL.
Will he drop a pass or make a mistake during his rookie season? Absolutely. All first-year receivers do. But along the way, he’ll make highlight-reel plays that will only get the Chiefs closer to winning a third straight Super Bowl.
You can bet that when that happens, all these nonsensical Worthy doubters will be slithering back into mom’s basement before waiting for the next chance to overreact to his next mistake.
Who knows? They might also come out to microwave another bowl of ramen or tell their parents the Wi-Fi isn’t working.
Meanwhile, Worthy will be making millions in the NFL while holding the title of fastest man in league history.
