MANILA, Philippines: Angel Canino and the De La Salle Lady Spikers’ reign came to an end after the win-once UST Golden Tigresses defeated them, 20-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-19, 7-15, in their UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball Final Four match at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, May 5.
In a quick chat with reporters following their loss, Canino, who logged 14 points, 12 excellent digs, and eight receptions, said that they will use the painful loss as motivation for another title bid next year.
“Of course, we’re sad with what happened but we’re not going to stop here. It serves as a motivation for all of us,” said the reigning MVP, who missed five games this season due to a right arm injury.
Canino and the Lady Spikers might have endured a painful defeat but they were all smiles when they took the time to greet some of their fans and grant them selfie requests near the player’s entrance of the MOA Arena.
The fans also serenaded the Lady Spikers with La Salle’s chant: ‘D-L-S-U, Animo La Salle!’
“It makes us happy because despite all the wins and the losses, they stayed by our side. It was overwhelming and I know we love them and they love us too.”
Meanwhile, La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo said that the Lady Spikers did their best but it wasn’t just enough.
“I can’t say anything because that’s all that we can manage this time and hence the result. We’re going to bounce back next year.”
