Former Brisbane mayor Graham Quirk believes the Queensland Miles government “didn’t want to be seen building something” new during a cost-of-living crisis.
A federal inquiry has found the Queensland government is yet to begin tangible preparations for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
It heard the Miles government had begun a ‘shadow review’ before former lord mayor Graham Quirk had finalised a 60-day venue review the premier asked him to lead.
Mr Quirk told the hearing he had been ‘blindsided’ by the move.
“They [the Miles government] didn’t want to be seen building something new and shiny perhaps, and therefore started to do preparations for going down a different track,” Mr Quirk told Sky News Australia.
