Canada's first Black female stunt co-ordinator is fighting for the field's recognition
Hi, I’m Angelica Scan. I am the first black female stunt coordinator in Canada and one of a mere handful in the world. Whoa. Love it. Good job to be able to show what we really do. Because I think people, they have an idea of what we do, but they don’t really know. When we talk about an award like the Oscars and it’s it’s Arts and Sciences, right? And we have this thing about well, if if this is not an art and if there’s not a science in for example. For the show that you were just talking about, there’s there’s a, there’s a cannon roll. Yeah, 8 1/2 revolutions. The old record was 7. Do you think that took some science? The thing that I always like to talk about is we’re all part. This business is tricky because everybody’s department thinks that they’re the most important and everybody is correct. So we just had casting. Casting this year now is going to be included. And we’re like, yes, we love the casting directors and they play in a very integral part and just did an interview the other day. A casting director is not going to die. Putting two actors together that have great chemistry, so we’re we’re super happy for them. I think it’s just people need to really understand and recognize what it is that we do. And I mean with 8711 N and David Leach and all of these guys getting together, this is I think the proper way to showcase to everyone what we do. And I’m thinking now maybe people will listen. People lose their lives to make art for everyone to forget about their problems. We’re making art for people to feel happy, to feel sad, to get excited. As soon as you see a trailer for a movie that’s got a little bit of action. What’s in the trailer? Not you and I being like, hey, that cup of coffee was great, can we go out for a walk? Cinematography is beautiful. The cup of coffee steaming. Wow, this is great. No? You want to see a car coming through? You want to see this guy on fire. You want to see this girl kicking this other girl in the face, and you want to jump on your seat? Oh, yes. And then you go back to your life, whatever that is.
