Morning logjam shocks Song residents, heavy rains upstream believed to be cause

SIBU: Residents in Song were shocked at seeing a logjam phenomenon in the Rejang River in front of the jetty here on Sunday (March 3).

The huge piles of drifting wood were noticed at around 10am on Sunday.

A resident known as Luke Antas said the incident was the same as in August 2021 where the pile of wood almost covered the river path.

However, he could not ascertain the type of wood in the logjam.

“Those of us at the Song riverbank market were surprised when the pile of wood drifted from the upstream side.

“Some believe that the big pile of wood came from Hulu Katibas,” he said when contacted Sunday.

He believed that this phenomenon may be due to the continuous heavy rains that have occurred in the upstream areas recently.

Meanwhile, Carol Telesa said the town’s residents were shocked by the scene.

“People were surprised to see so many piles of driftwood from the Katibas River. The situation is almost the same as what happened in 2010,” he added.

Facebook user Treena Mazda believes the incident was caused by heavy rain in the upper Katibas River.

Therefore, he advised river users to be careful when navigating boat passing through the piles of wood.
