‘Ashley Du Preez had four one-on-ones’ – says Chiefs coach

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson was left frustrated with Ashley Du Preez after the striker failed to convert his chances against Royal AM on Sunday afternoon.

Although Amakhosi left KwaZulu-Natal with a point, Johnson was disappointed with how his team played.

Having not played a competitive match in seven weeks, both teams looked sluggish and players looked somewhat rusty.

Speaking after the match, the Chiefs coach admitted his side missed a lot of chances.

Ashley Du Preez wasteful for Chiefs

“I don’t know what I need to say,” Johnson said after the game on SuperSport.

“Yes, we missed very big chances. I think we missed four one-on-ones, Ashley [Du Preez] had four times one-on-ones, he should have scored the goal. We didn’t get it.

“But did we play well today? No, I don’t think so. I am not happy with my performance as our team, I think our team is a lot better than what we showed today,” he said.

Royal AM goalkeeper Hugo Nyame has awarded man of the match after producing two fine saves to deny Chiefs.

“Yes, their goalkeeper gets man of the match, ja, it tells you a lot, but as a tactician, as a guy who sits on the bench, and watching his team play, and watching what his team went through at training sessions, and how they can play, and how they can be more confident on the ball, ja, we didn’t see a lot of that.

“We didn’t see enough of that, in order for us to, yes we missed the chances, but we should have really, really won the game,” Johnson said after the match.
