India Test cricketer Hanuma Vihari put out a scathing Instagram post announcing that he will never play for Andhra citing unfair treatment meted out to him by the Andhra Cricket Association during this year’s domestic season. Andhra made it to the quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season, losing to Madhya Pradesh by a narrow 4-run margin on Monday. But, Vihari, who has played 16 Tests for India, had resigned as the captain of the Andhra team after the first game of the season itself.

After the loss, Vihari, in a post on his social media channels said the team fought hard throughout the season, ‘but it wasn’t meant to be’. He went on to reveal that he was asked to resign from the captaincy after a politician, whose son was part of the the Andhra team, asked the association to take action against Vihari for shouting at the aforementioned player.

“We fought hard till the end but it wasn’t meant to be. Gutted to lose an another quarters with Andhra,” Vihari wrote, adding,” This post is about some facts I want to put forward. I was the captain in the first game against Bengal, during that game I shouted on 17th player and he complained to his dad(who is a politician), his dad in return asked the Association to take action against me. Although, we chased 410 against last year’s finalists Bengal I was asked to resign from captaincy without any fault of mine.”
