Turkey processor Butterball is recalling more than 14,100 pounds of ground turkey because the meat may be contaminated with pieces of blue plastic.
The Mount Olive, N.C.-based company said the products were produced Sept. 28, 2021, shipped to stores nationwide, and carried the brands “Kroger Ground Turkey” and “Farm to Family Butterball All Natural Ground Turkey.”
Consumer complaints about finding pieces of blue plastic embedded in the raw turkey directed to Butterball and to the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service led to the recall, according to the FSIS recall notice.
The Kroger branded ground turkey came in 3-pound trays with the case code 50211271, an Oct. 17, 2021 sell- or freeze-by date, and timestamps from 2314 through 2351 on the packaging, the recall notice said.
Gas prices:They usually fall this time of year as vacation season ends. So why are they jumping?
Lowe’s trick-or-treating:Retailer to host holiday fun at stores nationwide before Halloween. How to register.
Recalled 2.5-lb. trays containing “Farm to Family Butterball All Natural Ground Turkey” have the case code 50211271, an Oct. 18, 2021 sell- or freeze-by date, and timestamps of 2123 through 2302.
The products also carry the establishment number “EST. P-7345” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
Some consumers could have the product in their refrigerator or freezer. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the FSIS said.
To date, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries due to consumption of these products, the agency said. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider, it said.
