Shadow Home Affairs Minister James Paterson has called out the Albanese government for not acting on the “10-year warning” on defence before it was “gone”.
Albanese govt have not acted on ’10-year warning’ on defence spending: James Paterson
Overnight, China accused Australia of having a Cold War mentality and that it poses no threat to any other nation.
Defence spending has risen to 2.5 per cent of total spend.
“It only gets to those levels in 2033 and 2034,” Mr Paterson told Sky News Australia.
“That would be in this government’s fourth term.
“I think that’s not plausible, and we shouldn’t take seriously promises on the never-never.
“The 10-year warning time is gone, and yet this government plans to spend 10 years until we get to that level of defence spending.”
