Syracuse, N.Y. — The path of a coastal storm keeps shifting to the south and east with each new forecast, and most of Upstate New York is now likely to receive just a dusting.

The lower Hudson Valley and the Catskills could still see a foot of snow tonight and Tuesday, and several inches could fall in Albany, according to the National Weather Service. Beyond that, though, it’s another missed opportunity to catch up on the season’s dearth of snowfall.

There’s a small chance for a few inches of snow in Central New York if the storm shifts north at the last minute, but the weather service puts those odds at just 10%. Light lake effect snow could fall as the storm pulls off the coast and drags in cold air.

“Cold air Tuesday afternoon will lead to a few scattered lake effect snow showers for the Finger Lakes, but snow accumulations at this time look minimal,” the weather service said.

More lake effect snow could kick in Friday and through the weekend, but the forecasts are highly uncertain right now.

This winter has, so far, been Syracuse’s least snowy on record. Just 28 inches has fallen this season, 60 inches less than normal through Feb. 11.

This week marks a return to winter after temperatures hit 60 degrees Friday and Saturday. Highs this week in Syracuse are expected to be in the upper 30s, slightly warmer than the normal high this time of year, which is about 33 degrees.
