Shortly after the Congress announced its seat sharing pact with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat and gave up the Bharuch Lok Sabha Seat to AAP, former party stalwart late Ahmed Patel’s daughter Mumtaz Patel said that she will not let her father’s legacy of 45 years gonin vain.
“Deeply apologize to our district cadre for not being able to secure the Bharuch Lok Sabha seat in alliance.I share your disappointment. Together, we will regroup to make INC stronger. We won’t let Ahmed Patel’s 45 years of Legacy go in vain,” she wrote on ‘X’.
As per the seat sharing pact between the two INDIA alliance partners, of the 26 Gujarat seats, Congress will contest on 24 and AAP on 2 – in Bharuch and Bhavnagar.
Earlier this month, Mumtaz had said that there is Anger amongst the Congress workers in Bharuch and called for a scientific solution to the seat-sharing agreement.
“Anger amongst the @INCIndia workers &people of Bharuch due to one-sided defamatory speech of Aam Aadmi Party against Late Ahmed Patel ji.Congress is present in every street & will remain so. Coalition religion cannot be one-sided.Plz refrain & restrain,” she had said.
Ahmed Patel had represented the Bharuch Lok Sabha in 1977, 1980, 1984. However, the seat is currently held by BJP’s Mansukhbhai Vasava.
