Bruno Lage answers Adama Traore question after 'strange' Wolves win over Brentford

Even a drone couldn’t prevent flying Wolverhampton Wanderers from picking up another three points at Brentford.

Bruno Lage’s Wolves made it three Premier League wins on the spin in the capital after Ruben Neves clinched a 2-1 win over the Bees.

Joao Moutinho had earlier given Wolves the lead before Ivan Toney fired home the equaliser in a truly remarkable match.

A first half low on quality football will be remembered for an utterly bizarre incident.

As we approached the end of the first 45 minutes at the Brentford Community Stadium, a drone appeared in the sky.

Referee Peter Bankes swiftly ordered the players to leave the field, much to the annoyance of everyone inside the stadium.

What Bruno Lage said

“We need to be focused. The first break was a hard situation with two players out, the second with the drone and we came inside and talked a little bit about the game and what we can change.

“It was a strange first half. We did very well in the second half. The break helped us.

“I asked the players to win the game. We started well and scored a goal, they equalised from the set piece – we know they are very good at set pieces – but we came again.

“In the end we scored goals and I’m happy because we had the personality I wanted to play our game.”

Addressing Adama Traore’s future after the game, Lage said: “The most important thing is the way he plays for us.

“He played again with energy and scored the third goal again. He scored last week and scored again, and the way he celebrated with his teammates and also with me.

“He’s a team player, a big professional and a lovely guy. I’m very happy with him.”

What Thomas Frank said

Thomas Frank says a “confrontation” with Joao Moutinho sparked his dismissal after Brentford’s defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Brentford boss Frank appeared agitated in the second half of Wolves’ 2-1 win in the capital.

He tapped his wrist in the direction of referee Peter Bankes whilst Moutinho received treatment in the centre circle with around 15 minutes remaining.

Frank approached Bankes at the full-time whistle but, after a heated discussion with Moutinho, it ended with the Brentford boss seeing red.

Bankes initially gave Frank a yellow card before producing a second yellow followed by a red.

Explaining the incident, Frank said: “I was actually relatively calm going in there and there was a situation that triggered it.

“I got a yellow card after a confrontation with a Wolves player and then I turned around to Peter (Bankes, referee) and said, ‘You can just give me the second one as well.’

“I went in to speak with Peter calmly and asked why I got the second one, because the first one is fair enough. He said it was because apparently I was too aggressive.

“He said he will look back at it and see if it looked like that on TV and if it does, it will stand, if not it will be one yellow.

“I said to the players that I want them to control their emotions and not get stupid cards, so I said sorry for that this time because I couldn’t control my emotions.”

Pressed on what was said between himself and Wolves midfielder Moutinho, Frank added: “It was a confrontation with a Wolves player, but I don’t think there’s any reason to go into a specific player.

“It’s like a confrontation that happens a thousand times on the pitch. I got a yellow for it.”
