On Thursday afternoon the Philadelphia Phillies saw something no team wants to see just days before Opening Day.
Star first baseman Rhys Hoskins was attempting to make a routine play at first base. After catching a grounder down the right field line, Hoskins contorted his body to make a throw back to first.
The Phillies infielder’s left leg appeared to buckle as he tried to make a play. Hoskins immediately grabbed for his left knee and rolled around on the ground in tremendous pain.
Here’s video of the unfortunate play.
Medical personnel came to Hoskins’ side and he was eventually carted off the field.
Hoskins is a key piece of the Phillies – both on offense and defense. The starting first baseman was second on the team in home runs last season and third in runs batted in.
We’ll have to wait and see what the diagnosis is, but it doesn’t look good.
