Good evening. It has emerged that Labour destroyed documents that could have revealed where Angela Rayner claimed to be living when she applied to be a parliamentary candidate.
Elsewhere, Nicola Sturgeon’s husband Peter Murrell, the former Scottish National Party chief executive, has been re-arrested as part of an investigation into the party’s finances.

Ms Rayner is being investigated by police over claims that she broke electoral law by registering the wrong address as her permanent residence on the electoral register between 2010 and 2015. She was registered at her own house for those five years, while her husband at the time lived about a mile away.

Mr Murrell had previously been arrested in April last year in connection with the probe into the funding and finances of the party. A Police Scotland spokesman said: “A 59-year-old man has today, Thursday, 18 April, 2024, been re-arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation into the funding and finances of the Scottish National Party.”
