Brasil registra al menos 50 muertos y zonas totalmente anegadas por un grave temporal

La defensa civil de Brasil, los municipios, la policía civil, la brigada militar y el departamento de bomberos detallaron que al menos 50 personas han muerto por el grave temporal en territorio brasileño. El estado Río Grande do Sul enfrentó lluvias torrenciales, granizos y el desborde de algunos ríos de esa región. Las agencias de emergencia detallan que a la cifra de muertos se suman 68 desaparecidos y 74 heridos por la tragedia ambiental que deja una tormenta. Las autoridades también contabilizan 8.168 personas en albergues y 24.080 sin hogar o desplazados.

El gobernador de Río Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, comentó que las cifras “pueden cambiar sustancialmente en los próximos días, a medida que podamos acceder a los lugares y poder identificar otras vidas perdidas”. La Policía Federal de Carreteras detalló que 188 tramos de las rutas enfrentan algún bloqueo por el daño que deja la tormenta. La crisis ambiental en Brasil también dejó a varias ciudades sin suministro eléctrico y a personas aisladas.

La empresa eléctrica comunicó que al menos 296.000 clientes están sin electricidad en zonas inundadas. Todas ellas pertenecen a los municipios de Vale do Taquari, Metropolitana, Vale do Rio Pardo, Vale dos Sinos, Serra, Planalto y Central. En la capital estadual Porto Alegre, el nivel del río Guaíba se desbordó avanzando sobre calles y avenidas. La mañana de este sábado el agua llegó a niveles de cinco metros de altura en algunas zonas de esa ciudad.

G1 de Globo da cuenta que en Porto Alegra el terminal de buses terminó inundado, por lo que se suspendieron el 95% de los viajes planificados para esta jornada. El aeropuerto de esa ciudad debió ser cerrado por el “alto volumen de lluvias”. Eduardo Leite expresó que enfrentan el “peor desastre” en el estado y que en la zona metropolitana las consecuencias pueden ser graves, mientras las autoridades llaman a que la población proceda a evacuar algunas zonas.
