A 14-year-old schoolboy was stabbed in the neck while he was sitting an exam yesterday. 

The offender walked into the secondary school and stabbed the victim in the neck in front of teachers and classmates in south Manchester. 

Emergency services rushed to the incident at Manchester Academy in Moss Side, in the south of the city, at around 9.40am on Thursday. 

The boy was rushed to hospital where his injuries were understood to be serious but not life-threatening.

Greater Manchester Police said: 'A 13-year-old male pupil was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of a bladed article'

A 13-year-old male pupil was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and possession of a bladed article, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

Two other boys aged 13 and 12 were also arrested on suspicion of assault.

Police said their investigation was ongoing and that officers would remain in the school to offer reassurance.

Manchester Academy, which is part of the United Learning Group, was contacted for comment.

A GMP spokesperson said: ‘Police were called at around 9.40am to a report of a stabbing at Manchester Academy, Moss East Lane, Manchester.

‘Emergency services attended and a 14-year-old male pupil was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

‘A 13-year-old male pupil was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of a bladed article.’

‘Two further males, aged 13 and 12, have been arrested on suspicion of assault. They remain in custody for questioning.’
