Bridgerton is an unstoppable force of TV viewing so a spin-off series based around arguably the most interesting character was pretty much inevitable.
Now we finally have a first look at what’s coming down the line [insert excited squeal here] and it’s every bit as good as you’d expect.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story charts the complex royal’s early years and sets the scene for that love story we all have questions about.
It’s based 30 years before Daphne, Lady Whistledown and co. left their mark on the ton.

The trailer starts on a high with the young Queen played by India Amarteifio (you know her from Sex Education and Line of Duty) in flashbacks shunning the crown as an aid tells her that ‘there are worse fates than marrying the King of England.’
Her reluctance becomes clear in the next scene as her mother-in-law tells her that her duty is to make ‘lots and lots of babies’ with the king and unite their worlds.
At her first meeting with the King, she tries to escape her fate by climbing over a wall before the trailer launches the kind of no holds barred steamy love story we’ve come to expect from Bridgerton and then some proving that Queen Charlotte might just be the original wild child aristocrat.
All is not what it seems though as King George is hiding a dark secret that threatens to destroy their love.
As Queen Charlotte fights to get to the bottom of her husband’s private world she’s seen begging him to fight with her and for her as she’s warned that the marriage cannot fail.
The trailer winds down with Charlotte struggling to put duty before her feelings.

As well as India and her counterpart Golda Rosheuvel, the series sees Adjooa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury) and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton) reprise their roles.
Corey Mylchreest (The Sandman) plays the young King George and Harry Potter star Sam Clement play the young Brimsley.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story lands on Netflix on 4 May.
