Boulder County road rage shooting leads to attempted murder arrest

Asia's Tech News Daily

Nov. 25—A 39-year-old Boulder County man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of an explosive or incendiary device and other charges after Boulder County Sheriff's deputies responded earlier to reports of a road rage shooting near Gunbarrel.

Deputies responded to a call at 6:50 a.m. in the area of North 75th Street and Heatherwood Drive in unincorporated Boulder County, with the caller reporting that a driver shot at him with a handgun while the caller was passing him.

Deputies found a bullet hole in the passenger door of the caller's truck, according to a Boulder County Sheriff's Office news release.

While canvassing the area, deputies located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect's parked outside a residence in the 4600 block of Ipswich Street.

The owner of the vehicle, David John Waters, stated he was in the area during that time but denied any involvement in the shooting.

Detectives developed probable cause for a search warrant “through additional investigation” and served a search warrant on the house and vehicle, where they found “a large cache of firearms, ammunition and tactical gear inside the house,” according to the news release. Detectives also found “suspected bomb-making materials” and called the Boulder County Regional Bomb Squad.

Waters was arrested and booked into the Boulder County Jail on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder, possession of an explosive or incendiary device, criminal mischief and 36 counts of possession of a prohibited large capacity magazine.

Online court records show Waters was convicted of driving while ability impaired in Boulder County in 2009 and also has several traffic citations.

“At this time, there is no known threat to the community,” the sheriff's office stated in the news release.
