Chiefs’ Kelce sets NFL record for postseason receptions with big first half against Ravens
BALTIMORE (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has set an NFL record for most career catches in postseason play.
With his seventh reception in the first half of Sunday’s AFC championship game against the Baltimore Ravens, Kelce brought his total in the playoffs to 152. That broke the mark held by San Francisco 49ers Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, who had 151 catches in 29 games from 1985-2004.
Kelce was playing in his 21st postseason game Sunday. The favorite playmaker of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Kelce came into the game with 1,694 yards receiving in the playoffs, trailing only Rice (2,245) in the NFL record book.
He has seven catches for 66 yards and a touchdown with six minutes left in the first half Sunday, helping the Chiefs take a 14-7 lead.
Kelce also ranks second to Rice in playoff touchdown catches. Rice had 22 scores, and Kelce picked up his 19th on a 19-yard strike from Mahomes in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead over the top-seeded Ravens.
