Why a Borderlands Cinematic Universe Isn’t as Crazy as It Sounds

Although the first Borderlands movie trailer has proven to be divisive, the franchise has a lot of potential as a cinematic universe.

Lionsgate has revealed a brand-new promotional poster for the Borderlands movie, giving fans a better look at what to expect from the film when it releases this summer. The brightly colored poster features headlining actors Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Hart, Ariana Greenblatt, and Florian Munteanu in full costume as their respective game characters, along with Claptrap, who will be voiced by Jack Black. A tagline on the poster reads “Chaos Loves Company,” perfectly highlighting the high-octane action and sometimes absurdist sequences of the Borderlands video game franchise. While not a direct adaptation of any singular Borderlands game, this sci-fi action-comedy film looks to bring the fun-loving chaos of the Borderlands series to life on the silver screen.

Borderlands will release in theaters on Friday, August 9, and will introduce fans to an original story based on the universe and characters of the eponymous video game franchise. The Borderlands movie will focus on Lilith, played by Blanchett, searching the planet Pandora for the missing daughter of the notorious villain, Atlas. While on her search, Lilith will team up with iconic Borderlands game characters, including Roland, Tiny Tina, Krieg, Tannis, and the fan-favorite Claptrap. The motley crew will have to face off against the dangers of the mysterious planet while also battling the conflict of interest between one another.

In spite of some early criticisms of the Borderlands movie, many audiences remain optimistic that the film will prove a fun theatrical experience for fans of the iconic franchise. With vibrant poster designs and impressive trailer graphics drumming up intrigue, the Borderlands movie looks to be a playful romp for gamers and movie-goers alike.
