MANILA, Philippines: While the effect of the shear line has weakened, the northeast monsoon or “amihan” has intensified, this time affecting the entire archipelago, the state weather bureau said on Saturday.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Chief Nathaniel Servando said this means that the cold nights and mornings would persist until next month.
Weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said the effect of the northeast monsoon will be felt over the next 24 hours across the country.
“While the shear line weakens, the effect of amihan has increased, affecting the entire country,” the Pagasa forecaster said.
However, he said the shear line, where the hot and cold air converge, will continue to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Davao Regions.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will likely have partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated light rains, also due to amihan, the state-run weather agency said.
