I’m an aviola with your top business headlines right now. Tesla is preparing to lay off more than 10% of its global workforce, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters. The electric vehicle company is facing falling sales and an intensifying price war with competitors. Tesla had 140,473 employees globally as of December 2023, its latest annual report shows. Now its stock has fallen about 30% so far this year. And it recently reported that its global vehicle deliveries in the first quarter fell for the first time in nearly four years. Insurance premiums are rising due to rampant vehicle thefts, but experts say there are ways that drivers can help reduce their costs when buying a car. Drivers should be aware that frequently stolen vehicles such as Honda CR VS and Ford F1 fifties may come with a higher insurance premium, but some insurance companies are asking car owners to install an aftermarket tracking device called A tag system. They may even offer discounts or reimburse some of the costs for the tag because it can lower the risk of a claim since the car could be recovered. For many people, tax season can bring intense feelings of stress or anxiety about dealing with finances. Financial stress during tax season can manifest in different ways, whether that’s procrastinating on your tax return or experiencing intense stress about filing incorrectly. Experts recommend making a plan to tackle your return step by step and asking for support from family, friends or a tax professional. The deadline for Canadians to file their personal income taxes and pay any taxes owed is April 30th. And if you live in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario or one of the four Atlantic provinces and filed your taxes, you’ll be getting the first of four Canada carbon rebate checks starting today. And that is if you filed your taxes early by March 15th. Now, those who filed their taxes after that won’t see their first check for another month or so. The Parliamentary Budget Officer says about 80% of Canadians get back more from the rebates than they pay in carbon pricing on fuel purchases. Those are the top business stories right now.
