The LSU Football program could be in danger of losing a recently promoted coach.

Earlier this week, LSU officially promoted pass game coordinator/wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton to co-offensive coordinator to serve alongside new offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, who was also promoted this week (Sloan has been LSU’s quarterbacks coach since 2022).

Hankton and Sloan replace former offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock, who left Baton Rouge this offseason to take over as Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator.

On Friday evening, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Atlanta Falcons have requested to interview Hankton for their vacant offensive coordinator job.

The Falcons hired Raheem Morris this week to replace Arthur Smith as the franchise’s new head coach.

Hankton has never coached in the NFL before. But when Hankton was a player in the NFL, he spent a season (2008) under Morris when the new Atlanta head coach was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive backs coach.

If Hankton ends up being offered the Falcons offensive coordinator gig, it could be tough for him to turn down considering the growing workload of college coaches — especially when it comes to the transfer portal and the NIL era.
