Bobby Wagner on Pete Carroll: 'The time was coming'

Seattle Seahawks legend Bobby Wagner has played for the team for a long time since they drafted him in 2012, but he’s never played without Pete Carroll. But even if he was surprised to hear of the team parting ways with the longtime coach, he knew it was going to happen at some point.

During an interview this week, Bobby Wagner gave his reaction to Pete Carroll leaving the team.

“Of course, obviously, because when you think of Seahawks, you think of Pete Carroll,” Wagner said according to NFL.com. “It’s natural, because he’s been there for I believe 14 years. And so, not seeing that face connected to the Seahawks is always going to be surprising. It was the same thing with Bill Belichick; when you think of Patriots, you think of Bill Belichick. But you know the time was coming at some point.”

But even though Wagner has played for Carroll every season he’s been in the league, he insists that won’t be a factor as he decides whether or not to remain with the team for another season.

“No, it doesn’t affect anything,” Wagner said. “I want to keep playing ball. I want to keep showing I can play at a high level. I’m fortunate enough to be around a lot of these guys, but also guys like Ray Lewis and Peyton Manning and those guys, stealing knowledge from them, talking about how they were able to last as long as they did, so I’m excited about that, just figuring out what that looks that.”

A six-time All-Pro and a Super Bowl champion, Wagner is already a Seahawks legend. We’ll have to see if he sticks with the team to create an even greater legacy.
